Effects of a natural extract of Hydroxycitric acid (HCA-SX) on weight management.
Researchers examined the effects of Hydroxycitric acid (HCA-SX) on weight loss in subjects. Efficacy was determined by changes in bodyweight, body mass index (BMI), appetite, lipid profiles and various other factors.
Sixty moderately obese subjects participated in this double-blind, placebo-controlled study for 8 weeks. Participants were randomly divided into two groups. Subjects received HCA-SX, while others were given three daily placebo doses. All participants received a 2000 kcal daily diet and walked under supervision.
Researchers observed that food intake, appetite, total cholesterol, and fat synthesis were reduced. HCA-SX provided a relative decrease in BMI while helping to promote healthy levels of blood lipid without stimulating the central nervous system.
Efficacy of a novel calcium/potassium salt of hydroxycitric acid in weight control.
The weight-loss efficacy of a water-soluble calcium/potassium salt of hydroxycitric acid (HCA-SX) was examined in 90 obese subjects. Participants received a daily dose of HCA-SX, ate a 2,000 kcal daily diet and participated in a supervised walking program 5 days a week.
Research indicates that HCA-SX helped reduce BMI and body weight, support appetite control, improves blood lipid profiles, affect serotonin levels and helped support fat oxidation more than placebo. Thus, it is concluded that HCA-SX is a relatively effective adjunct to healthy weight control.
